Keep Your Childs Teeth Healthy

To ensure your child's smile lasts a lifetime, it's important to instill good dental hygiene habits in them from a very young age. But it's not always easy to get children to adopt a new habit; especially a habit they may consider a chore. The following article offers three suggestions for teaching children proper dental hygiene habits.
Regular Visits To A Pediatric Dentist
A pediatric dentist can be an invaluable asset when it comes to teaching your child proper dental hygiene habits. A pediatric dentist is required to take an additional two years of training after receiving their Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. During this time, they learn about the special oral and dental needs of children from infancy through adolescence.
Because a pediatric dentist understands how a child's dental needs differ from that of an adult's, they are better equipped to teach children healthy habits that will last a lifetime. They can explain the importance of good dental hygiene to children in a non-confrontational manner that they can understand, and show them how brushing and flossing can be made fun.
Regular trips to a pediatric dentist will also help your child feel more at ease about going to the dentist, and will encourage continued good habits so they receive positive check-ups. Most dentists recommend children start regular appointments around their first birthday, and begin brushing around age 2 or 3.
Make It Fun
When you've got to do it twice a day... every day... brushing can sometimes seem like a chore. And flossing certainly isn't a walk in the park either; especially for young children. To establish good habits and make these tasks seem less onerous, make it fun!
Manufacturers have quickly caught on to the fact that children don't like to brush their teeth. A quick trip down the oral health isle at the store presents an array of options to make brushing more fun. Colored, glittery toothpaste, character toothbrushes, electric toothbrushes, and rinses that leave colors behind where teeth weren't thoroughly clean can all make brushing seem like more of a game than a chore.
Other ways to liven up your child's toothbrush time are to put on their favorite song and brush to the music, use brushing as a competition between siblings (who has the cleaner teeth?), and reward your child for good habits (like brushing without being reminded and good check-ups at the dentist).
Set An Example
Monkey see, monkey do! A child who sees their parents exhibiting proper dental hygiene habits is more likely to follow suit. Even on those days when it truly does feel like a chore, remind yourself that your kids are watching you.
To really recognize the benefits here, rearrange your routine so that you can brush your teeth while your child brushes theirs. Brushing and flossing together has a three-fold advantage: you can teach your child healthy habits, make it fun for each other, and set a good example.

Medications are common cure for chronic TMJ. Of course it is best to ask your health provider which medicine will work best for your condition. Caring for your child's teeth, Tijuana, Mexico

It’s all too easy to get caught up in the cares and concerns of our health when we’re adults, but let’s not forget that our little ones need just as much care and attention – sometimes even more so.

We all know that kids can get into all sorts of trouble, whether they’re in the playground or scribbling all over your freshly painted living room wall. Sometimes, though, these mishaps can end up causing a lost tooth or other types of dental damage. That’s where paediatric dentistry comes in. It’s a special branch of dentistry that deals exclusively with children, and it could very well save your child’s smile one day.

What is Paediatric Dentistry?

Because the nature and structure of a child’s teeth differs drastically from that of an adult, the amount of care needed and the way it is delivered needs to be different too. For this reason, paediatric dentistry was created. The ‘behind the scenes’ aspects of paediatric dentistry aims to discover new ways to deal with the various infections and problems that children can encounter, whilst the ‘front line’ is made up of actual paediatric dentists, who are experienced in treating a range of oral hygiene problems in children.

One factor that has to be considered by paediatric dentists is the fact that children often have ‘baby teeth’, which will eventually fall out and be replaced with their adult counterparts. Because the size and shape of these teeth is very different to their adult forms, the tools and procedures are also very different. Paediatric dentists also come across a range of oral hygiene issues with kids because they have a tendency to not want to clean their teeth, and are difficult to convince of the benefits. Call it the arrogance of youth, but for some reason, telling them their teeth will drop out when they’re old doesn’t seem to bother them!

What Are the Benefits of Paediatric Dentistry?

There are a whole host of benefits that are associated with proper paediatric dental care. First and foremost is obviously the health of your child’s teeth. Children are notoriously difficult when it comes to oral hygiene, and a paediatric dentist can give you all sorts of advice which will help you do a better job of imparting the skills necessary for your child to retain a great set of pearly whites.

It is generally recommended that you take your child to see a paediatric dentist roughly once every six months. This will ensure that their teeth are receiving the best possible care. The paediatric dentist will give the child’s teeth a thorough check-up and, if necessary, a good clean. Another benefit of a paediatric dentist is that they are able to provide you with knowledge that you probably couldn’t gain elsewhere. They can teach you how to clean your children’s teeth properly, including flossing and mouthwash if appropriate.

Dental Phobia, Tijuana, Mexico

Do you fear going to the dentist, or even the thought of making an appointment with the dentist? Has your mouth and oral hygiene been neglected as a result of this fear? Believe it or not, many of us deal with some type of stress anxiety or fear when it comes to the care of our teeth, especially when we don't really know or understand the type of treatment needed.
Most dental fears develop as a result of a direct experience. Meaning, you have had a traumatic or uncomfortable experience with a dental procedure in the past. Oftentimes, people let that bad experience prevent them from going back to the dentist. Because of this, their oral hygiene suffers, resulting in embarrassment, and systemic problems.
Keep in my mind that each dentist is different! Some may be gentler than others. Be sure to thoroughly research your dentist before making an appointment.
Here are some tips for dealing with dental stress, fear, or anxiety:
• RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!! - Anxiety is usually caused by the unknown. If you are unfamiliar with a procedure or a term that the dentist uses, look it up. There are a ton of resources on the internet (including this one) that are meant to help educate patients about procedures.
• Don't be afraid to ask the dentist or dental hygienist questions. - Never feel intimidated by the dentist or any healthcare provider. Our job is to make you feel comfortable, and more importantly, to ensure that you understand any and everything dealing with your mouth.
• Ask for sedation - Many offices offer light sedation. If dealing with the procedure is just too much, just ask to be sedated.
• Try some relaxation techniques - For instance, before the procedure, take 3 deep breaths. Slowly in, and slowly out. Close your eyes and slowly relax your body. Take your mind away from the current situation.
• Bring your iPod or mp3 player to the appointment - Music has astonishing neurological effects on the brain. If you need music to help relax, don't hesitate to bring it with you. Actually, many offices will provide you with music, movies, television, and virtual reality goggles, to help distract you and ease the tension.
• Ask for topical anesthetic - Make sure the dentist applies topical anesthetic before administering general anesthetic with the needle. Topical anesthetic is gently massaged in your mouth with a q-tip. This lightly numbs the area so that you won't feel the needle as much.

Dental implants are ideal to replace broken or damaged teeth. Be advised that these dental implants can be a costly procedure as well as lengthy procedure.
Typically, dental implants have a starting cost around $1000 dollars for each tooth. If you have dentures, bridges, broken or damaged teeth dental implants could be a great investment for your smile. This procedure has very low failure rates. If a failure was to occur, chances are that there was an undetected bacterial infection during the install of the implant.

Timeframes needed to complete the dental implant procedure have a few contributing factors. One such factor is state of the jawbone. If the doctor needs more jawbone to work with, bone grafting may be required. This process must be completed and healed before the dental implant can be installed.

Osseointegration is a process where a titanium post is screwed into the jawbone. This must be left for 3-6 months so that the bone can fuse around it. A plate style implant may be used between the gum and the jawbone if the bone integrity is not ideal.
Once the healing has completed, the doctor will make a cast of the mouth. Then a ceramic tooth will be made to match the existing shape and color of the teeth.
It is always advisable to consult your dentist regarding dental implants. In some cases, they may be able to offer you a finance plan to have the procedure done. Be sure to ask any and all questions about dental implants with your.

Roles of Veneers in Dentistry

There are many factors that can have an adverse impact on the quality of your smile, from tooth crookedness to discoloration to unsightly gaps. Whatever the cause, a less-than-perfect smile can dramatically affect your self-esteem, personality, and ability to communicate with others.
For many, dental veneers (often referred to as porcelain veneers) provide an ideal solution. Formed from ceramic, these custom-made, eggshell-thin coverings are designed to mimic the look and feel of natural enamel. They are placed over the surface of teeth to conceal chips, gaps, cracks, or other problems that can jeopardize dental health or aesthetics. Dental veneers can provide an easy, painless way to achieve a bright, confident smile.
Problems Addressed by Porcelain Veneers
There are several different conditions that can be quickly and painlessly solved by veneers:
Chipped Teeth: Teeth can chip for a variety of reasons, including stress-induced grinding, an accident or trauma, using your teeth for purposes they are not intended for, or a fracture that causes a gradual weakening. Regardless of the cause, chipped teeth can detract from the appearance of your smile while increasing the risk of discoloration, sensitivity, and decay.
Crooked Teeth: In addition to affecting the appearance of your teeth, crookedness can cause dental pain and inhibit good oral hygiene. Those who leave the problem untreated are more prone to tooth decay, tooth loss, and bad breath. It can also be difficult to chew properly with crooked teeth, increasing the chances of jaw misalignment.
Discolorations: The most obvious effect of discolored teeth (a wearing-down or dulling of surface enamel) is a dirty appearance, creating the implication of poor dental health. Noticeable stains on the surface of your teeth can make you look older than your age, while drawing more attention to other issues, such as gaps and crookedness. Varying degrees of discoloration can be caused by numerous factors:
- Genetic predisposition
- Prolonged exposure to certain foods or drinks such as coffee or tea
- Ingestion of or contact with of certain medications
- Smoking cigars or cigarettes
- Nerve damage to a tooth during an accident or fall.
Gaps: Anyone who's ever had extra space between their teeth knows that gaps can have a dramatic impact on self-esteem. Those born with gaps often notice the problem worsening with age. They wonder if people are staring at the gap in their teeth or they find themselves reluctant to talk or smile. In addition to affecting your confidence, the condition can also make it difficult to chew or speak.
Misshapen Teeth: Even if you have perfect dental health, just one misshapen tooth can cause your smile to look flawed or unhealthy.
All of the above: Many folks don't have a single dental affliction. A combination of genetics, lifestyle choices, and normal wear and tear can create a set of unique circumstances.
In most cases, depending on the severity of these conditions, smiles can be aesthetically and functionally enhanced with the use of porcelain veneers.
Benefits of Dental Veneers
Porcelain veneers offer a number of advantages to today's dental patients:
A more natural look: With today's enhanced dental technology, ceramic veneers offer a high degree of translucence, making them virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
Custom design and creation: Porcelain veneers are custom-matched to the color of your teeth. If you desire a whiter smile, veneers can be used in conjunction with whitening to create a dazzling smile. Veneers are designed specifically for your mouth, your lifestyle and your individual circumstances.
Quicker results: Unlike straightening with braces, tooth whitening systems, or complex dental bonding, veneers can be applied in just one or two visits, immediately achieving a bright, even smile.
Lower cost: Veneers are typically less expensive than other, multi-step, more complex
treatments including surgery.
Long-term protection: In addition to looking good, veneers are durable enough to strengthen weak or damaged teeth, potentially eliminating the need for a bridge, crown, or other, more invasive procedures. Also, if properly maintained, veneers can last several decades.
There are several different options and brands available for dental veneers, such as Lumineers. Before making a decision about what type or brand of veneer is best, contact a Cosmetic Dentist who is experienced in placing porcelain veneers. Ask the dentist to see examples of their work, such as before and after photographs where porcelain veneers were used. Ask if the dentist offers a no-fee consultation, and never be rushed into making a decision about your smile. You and the dentist should work collaboratively to come up with a treatment that fits your oral health needs, lifestyle and budget.

Sleep and Sleep Disorders

Sleep:
You spend 33% of your life sleeping! We just can't stay alive without it. The proper functioning of many of your body's functions, such as memory, immune system, and energy, are directly related to the quality of your sleep. Approximately 90 million people in North America have a sleep disorder. Are you included in this group?

While sleeping normally, the body temperature, blood pressure, breathing pace, and nearly all of your bodily functions slow down. In contrast to this, the brain maintains the same level of activity as when you are awake. A lot of research has shown that our minds are as busy when we sleep as they are when we are awake. During the eight hour sleep pattern, adults usually change from two completely different patterns: REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and non-REM sleep.

REM Sleep: Nearly all dreams happen while in REM sleep.
Normal adults spend 20 to 25% of their sleep in the REM sleep cycle.

One of the most well known sleep problems is obstructive sleep apnea.

Is snoring dangerous?

Unless you think about the harm done to the relationship with your mate in bed then, of course not, snoring is basically not dangerous in and of itself. An experienced dentist can treat and eliminate it. Snoring, however, is known to indicate the possibility of obstructive sleep apnea, a potentially serious problem that can cause a lot of trouble. Dentist also have the answer for Sleep Apnea - Dental Appliance

Sleep Apnea in kids: Kids who have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) will snore noisily and will also have brief time periods while they sleep when they stop breathing (known as apnea).

3 The Three Teeth Whitening Techniques

A great smile can prove to be a valuable asset, particularly when you first meet someone. However, people who have brown or yellow stained teeth are very conscious of this short.coming. It may also cause social insecurity. One of the best treatment methods available to gain back that white perfect smile is teeth whitening. The basic methodology of teeth whitening is that it reverses the process of discoloration of teeth, bleaching them to reveal the white enamel again.
Teeth generally darken over a period of time. This may be due to consumption of caffeine-containing drinks (like tea, coffee and cola) or tobacco products. Also, excessive fluoride production and use of antibiotic medication can also lead to teeth discoloration. However, the biggest factor contributing to the loss of whiteness is age. Teeth whitening, to counter the process of discoloration, is one of the safest and the most popular procedure in cosmetic dentistry. Studies indicate that almost 96% of the people who undergo this treatment experience visible benefits.
There are three options available to those considering this procedure – you can either undergo professional bleaching, try home bleaching or use whitening toothpastes. Of the three listed, the quickest and the most effective is professional bleaching. It is also referred to as In-Office or Chair-side bleaching. It usually requires two or more visits to a dentist. However, the effects are much long lasting than any other procedure. The dentist will apply a bleaching agent to your teeth. The gums, however, are not harmed. The most common mouth guard is a gel or rubber shield. After the dentist has carefully applied the bleaching agent to your teeth, he might want to use additional heat or light procedures to make the agent work faster. A usual treatment sitting might last from 30 minutes to an hour.
The second option that is available to you is that of home bleaching. You can buy a kit from any certified pharmacist or dentist. This kit would usually contain a hydrogen peroxide based bleaching gel or solution. This is meant to be applied to the tooth enamel. As a rule, a mouth guard is also included in the kit. You are supposed to place the solution or gel in the mouth guard and then follow the directions given with the equipment. The frequency of use and the duration of treatment for home bleaching vary. Overnight treatments work for a much shorter period. However, if you are, say, required to use the kit twice a day, the treatment might be effective for a longer period of time.
Whitening toothpastes work in a different way from bleaching techniques because they do not aim towards a permanent alteration of teeth color. They usually contain polishing agents. They work to remove some of the deeper stains, which a regular toothpaste might not effectively dislodge. You should always consult your dentist before going forth with any of these procedures – he is the best person to guide you and can advise you on the most effective treatment plan suited to your needs.

Veneer Placement

Veneer placement is best for those with:

Enamel worn beyond repair – The hard enamel tooth coating can be damaged by dietary habits, genetics and medications. If the damage or discolouration is so substantial that laser whitening will not restore the tooth to its natural beauty, veneers are a good option.

Uneven or unaligned teeth – Uneven teeth are a cause of embarrassment and low self-esteem for some. Braces can be used to align teeth, but are not suitable in all situations. Your cosmetic dentist will determine whether orthodontic alignment or veneers are a better choice for you.

Chipped teeth – Chipped or deeply cracked teeth respond well to veneers. The veneer can actually prevent further damage by protecting the tooth with its hard coating.

Spreading teeth – As we age, genetics cause the spacing between our teeth to grow further apart. This can cause embarrassing gaps between the teeth. Since the veneer is placed over the natural tooth, it is often a good option and negates the need for more invasive techniques such as implants.

Dental Veneers for better smile, Tijuana, Mexico

The need of dental implants must be assimilated with the utmost importance. There was a time when people used to opt for dental implants because they lost their tooth. Losing the teeth is not a big deal; one fall in the right direction, at the correct pace is more than ample to leave to with some lost teeth. People lose their teeth out of tooth decaying too. In other words, accidents and natural causes can induce the need for dental implants. In the rest of the passages, I will be explaining in detail the necessity of dental implants.
Implanting an artificial tooth into the mouth is quite simple these days. Appropriate mechanisms will be affixed to the jawbone. The artificial tooth will be screwed into this mechanism. Titanium screws are widely employed for the purpose to affix the tooth properly into the artificial "socket". The dental implants are broadly classified into the mini dental implants and major dental implants. The cost is, augmented, likewise, for major dental implants. These days' people are known to opt for implants purely for cosmetic purposes also. In fact, a major share of the dental implant procedures is executed in the niche for the same purpose.
What are the advantages of implants in comparison to the normal dentures employed by the dentists?
These are listed in this passage. There are various strings (conditions/clauses) attached with dentures. You are even prohibited from indulging in specific kinds of food, a constant vigil must be kept at all the times, so that you never cross the threshold and damage the teeth. With the aid of dental implants all the conditions are merely history - now people can indulge in any type of foods, without ever considering the aftereffects. Titanium is a metal that is used extensively for the purpose - the simple reasoning behind this is that titanium can be fused into the jawbone easily and swiftly.
Once the procedure is completed, adequate time must be taken as a buffer - so that the healing process is augmented. Regular visits to the clinic for checkups are quite common then. Dentists are noted to conduct the surgery in a systematic approach (primarily in the form of stages). The surgery will depend upon the extent of damage caused to the root of the teeth, the number of tooth that is being transplanted to the jawbone. The procedure is of course, expensive.
The procedure is quite simple and painless - but this ultimately boils down to the dentist in question. The cost can be reduced by opting for financial aid from NHS (national health services). Nevertheless, this is applicable in certain countries only. The dentist might not assure the patient a 100% success rate; failures are quite common in the niche. Complications do arise, but only seldom. Discuss the procedure in detail with the dentist, before you sign up for the procedure. Like mentioned in the title, try to impart a new lease of life to your face. Expect an increase in the overall social appeal by opting for a dental implant.

Cosmetic Teeth Whitening in Tijuana, Mexico

The way that most dental whitening procedures work is that they actually chemically remove stains and discoloration from the surface of the tooth, and dentists classify two basic procedures for accomplishing whiter teeth – namely “bleaching” and “whitening.” Bleaching whitens teeth beyond their original natural color. The chemical products used to take tooth color to this stage are usually hydrogen peroxide – the same kind used to bleach hair – or a similar chemical known as carbamide peroxide. Technically speaking, the term “whitening” refers to the process of restoring tooth color to its original whiteness by removing stains, dirt, and other things that can discolor a tooth.

To narrow down that best strategy for making teeth whiter, dentists look at two types of stain. Extrinsic stains are on the outer surface of the tooth, whereas intrinsic stains are actually inside the tooth and they show through the surface of the tooth enamel. Toothpaste and other home remedies for whitening the teeth can usually deal effectively with mild types of extrinsic stains, although usually a trip to the dentist is required to effectively remove stubborn extrinsic stains. Meanwhile the intrinsic stains – which tend to be the most noticeable and hard to fix – come about due to tiny cracks or porous areas in the enamel and these interior stains are deeply embedded. They can happen with age or because of exposure to various chemicals – including fluoride or certain antibiotics as a child – that tend to discolor teeth over time.

Because fast removal of either kind of stain can usually only be accomplished by a dentist – and nobody wants to wait a long time to get a whiter smile – it is more effective to leave teeth whitening up to your dentist. If you have sensitive teeth whiteners and bleaches can also cause discomfort or even extreme pain, and your dentist can also examine your teeth before any procedure to ensure that the process is as healthy and pain-free as possible. In the long run it may cost a little more to have teeth whitened or cleaned by a dentist, but the results are more permanent, risk-free, and immediate – so most people generally find that the valuable results more than outweigh any added expense.

Thanks to advances in dentistry and cosmetic products for the dental industry, it is easier than ever before and many people are even able to do procedures like tooth whitening at home. Cosmetic dentistry in Chula Vista, San Deigo

The majority of us wish we had perfect or near perfect teeth. Many of us have tooth imperfections from simple wear and tear, trauma and bad luck.

Bad teeth also affect one’s confidence and self esteem. In the years past when we lost teeth, that was the end of it; we had to live with an embarrassing smile for the rest of our life. This is no longer true anymore. Today, cosmetic dentistry in Chula Vista San Deigo can help improve our facial appearance by making one’s teeth look attractive. Implant dentistry Chula Vista is a novel specialty in dentistry designed to help individuals who have missing teeth.

In the last decade, there have been a variety of sturdy dental implants (artificial tooth) developed that can be attached directly to the jawbone and covered with realistic replacement teeth. Not only are these teeth functional, they can help restore self esteem and confidence in a person.

Unlike conventional dentures, dental implants are a major cosmetic improvement. The dental implants are stable, sturdy, user friendly and functional. The other great advantage of dental implants is that they prevent gum trauma and bone erosion that is so common with dentures.
